This weather system, which registered wind speeds of up to 120 mph as of 6:00 AM GMT, is presently veering toward the northwest in the Caribbean Sea and is expected to make landfall by early next week, as reported by meteorological authorities.

Advisories are also in effect for parts of Haiti such as the primary urban center, the adjacent nation and Cuba's eastern region, where Melissa is anticipated to bring similar effects by the midweek period.

Rock slides already being caused by the storm have caused two deaths in the country, according to emergency services.

The hurricane is forecast to pass over Cuba by midweek before passing across the Greater Antilles and out into the open ocean.

By the time it arrives at the Caribbean nation, it is predicted to have weakened to a third-level hurricane.
