Presence Film
The acclaimed director tests his film-making abilities through this clever paranormal narrative filmed completely through the eyes of a ghost. After a clan including mother Rebekah plus Callina Liang as Chloe settles into their fresh home, the camera – as the unseen entity – tracks their movements. The daughter appears aware of the ghostly being, and the entity appears defensive toward her. But why? It's a fun idea that avoids overstaying, with a twist that could catch you off guard. October 11th, afternoon and evening times, Sky Cinema Premiere
Nicolas Cage's Meta Comedy
Cage embraces his eccentric image via this self-referential adventure. He portrays a self-obsessed Hollywood actor playing himself who accepts a $1m payday to visit a celebration at a Mediterranean location for the rich superfan Javi. Contacted by the CIA to gather intel on the potential kingpin, the actor's “nouveau shamanic acting ability” proves useful. Saturday 11 October, 9pm, the Channel 4 network
This Creepy Thriller
The director's contained scarefest remains effective despite the lack of a continuation. Taking place in 1978 Denver, several child abductions has made the youth frightened. When Finney gets captured by the villain and imprisoned in a basement, he anticipates a fatal end. But the disconnected phone mounted nearby continues to ring, with eerie communicators providing assistance, as the intuitive nightmares of his sister Gwen may be his salvation. An effective horror. Saturday 11 October, 10.50pm, on Film4
This Dramatic Portrait
In the conflict between God and Mammon, the winner is obvious for Mammon in this director's brilliantly over-the-top true story regarding the shamed religious broadcaster and her felon spouse. The actor portrays the greedy Jim, who declares early on, asserting religious justification for riches. The couple set about capitalizing on the nation's spiritual convictions. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, excessive cosmetics and insincerity, yet Jessica Chastain manages to present Tammy Faye in a likable light. Tuesday 14 October, 1.15am, Film4
The Spy Mystery
The current week's another release from Steven Soderbergh is a spy mystery as precise similar to the collars sported by the actor's intelligence officer. He receives a mission with uncovering a mole among the team from a group of five – one of whom is his spouse. The two stars are experts of deadpan cool, resulting in an engaging mind game of deception or honesty unfolds. Additional actors take part the smart espionage amusement.
